Voting Hubs &
UMICH Votes Fellows
delightful spaces to support the student voting experience & an energetic cohort of peer mentors
Based on the success of our 2020 Ann Arbor City Clerk’s Satellite Office, we designed two voting hubs on U-M’s campus, open from late September through Election Day. A central focus of each hub was a pop-up City Clerk’s office, where students could register and receive their absentee ballot. Recognizing the power of peer interactions, we recruited 2o students from across campus to act as peer mentors in the spaces, welcoming and guiding students through the process.

To serve the full U-M community, we created sites on both Central and North Campus. The Stenn Gallery at UMMA (top banner) anchored the hub on Central and the Duderstadt Center Gallery (above) provided a visible, light-filled space on North Campus.

UMICH Votes Fellows welcomed and oriented their peers as they entered, answered questions and offered non-partisan resources. Fellows were also there to chat and celebrate voting at a button-making cart! Their upbeat energy was central to creating a positive social experience.
